WEATHERTRAK SELECTED FOR SUNSET'S FIRST GREEN-BUILT IDEA HOUSE

Petaluma, Calif., September 29, 2005 - HydroPoint Data Systems, Inc., the leader in weather-based irrigation management, today announced that the WeatherTRAK® ET plus™ irrigation controller has been selected for the Sunset Green-built Idea House and an adjacent demonstration house in Menlo Park, CA. The Green-built Idea House is a first-of-its-kind collaboration between Sunset Magazine, the state of California's Sustainable Building Task Force and builder Clarum Homes. WeatherTRAK was selected because the product line has been proven – in more than seven years of public agency study - to reduce water use by up to 59 percent and runoff pollution by as much as 71 percent.

The Sunset Green-built Idea House is located beside an identical demonstration house where Plexiglas cutaways expose the eco-friendly materials used in construction. Both homes’ landscapes feature an attractive variety of plant types that will benefit from WeatherTRAK’s ability to automatically customize watering for each landscape zone. WeatherTRAK optimizes plant health and eliminates the costs and risks of over-watering including high water bills, fines, hardscape damage, erosion and mold.

“We chose WeatherTRAK for the Sunset project because it’s the only controller proven to maximize water conservation automatically and its scheduling software is right on target with regard to irrigating drought-tolerant California natives appropriately,” said Stephanie Morris, a landscape architect with Los Gatos, CA-based HLD Group, which managed landscape design and implementation. “WeatherTRAK rewards our efforts by sustaining the health and beauty of the landscape we created.”

WeatherTRAK-enabled controllers are available from The Toro Company, Irritrol Systems and HydroPoint. All WeatherTRAK controllers include Scheduling Engine™ software, which creates watering schedules based on the needs of plants in each landscape zone. Every night, the WeatherTRAK ET Everywhere™ service transmits detailed, local weather reports to a built-in radio within each controller. The service triggers adjustments to the watering schedule as warranted by local weather conditions. Proactive customer service completes the offering to ensure that water savings are sustained for the long term. This unique combination of science and service has made WeatherTRAK the proven standard for weather-based irrigation management. Water agencies are now encouraging adoption of WeatherTRAK controllers with rebate programs that cover up to half the cost.

“The Sunset Green-built Idea House highlights WeatherTRAK’s many advantages for homeowners, builders and the environment,” said Chris Spain, president and CEO of HydroPoint. “Our customers are reducing their water bills by a third or more. Builders who specify WeatherTRAK avoid the liability of water-related damage and landscape water runoff. Everybody wins because WeatherTRAK beautifies landscapes while it sustains and protects our water supplies from harmful pollution.”

The public may tour the home on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 9am to 5pm, except for the weekends of November 25 and December 23 and 30. Tickets may be purchased at the house.
