WeatherTRAK Smart Water Management Provides Answer to Rocky Mountain Water Shortage

Equipping Landscape Professionals To Be "Green" Heroes

ProGreen Expo, Denver, CO - January 23, 2008 - WeatherTRAK smart water management - proven to save four times more water than any other technology - will stave off critical water shortages in the Rocky Mountain region, announced the solution's manufacturer HydroPoint Data Systems, Inc. By delivering the WeatherTRAK solution to their property owner customers, landscape maintenance contractors will save Colorado an estimated 2.3 million gallons of water and 9.2 million watt-hours of power in 2008.

Colorado's growing population places increasing pressure on the state's already constrained water supply. By 2030, Colorado will grow by nearly two-thirds - or 2.8 million residents - to reach a total population of 7.1 million. The state's water basins will need 53 percent more water to meet projected demands, according to the Colorado Water Conservation Board. In response, water and sewer costs are rising throughout the state, outpacing energy rate hikes.

Landscapes receive about half of Colorado's urban water supply, and are overwatered by 30-to-300 percent. The widespread practice of overwatering landscapes leads directly to urban runoff, which pollutes local water supplies and endangers wildlife. Water waste even promotes global warming as 4 million watt hours of power are expended and 5,360 pounds of carbon dioxide (CO2) are emitted along with every million gallons of water consumed. Excess water is similarly catastrophic for structures, resulting in asphalt cracks, rot and mold whose costs are 5-to-10 times as high as water bills.

EPA- and SWATT-proven to eliminate landscape water waste, the WeatherTRAK solution is being rapidly adopted by leading retailers, public agencies, property management companies, schools, homeowner associations and others seeking to "go green" to meet sustainability and cost-saving objectives. WeatherTRAK customers comply with new conservation measures, earn US Green Building Council LEEDT certification points, save energy and conserve billions of cups of precious drinking water. Customers typically achieve ROI in less than two years through reduced property maintenance and utility costs.

In the Rocky Mountain region, the WeatherTRAK smart water management solution is now available from CPS Distributors, Inc. (CPS), the region's largest wholesale distributor of professional pump and irrigation supplies.

"Since 1890, we've sought to offer products that enrich our customers' lives and protect our environment," said Lowell Kaufhold, director of marketing, CPS. "We're pleased to find in WeatherTRAK a product line that delivers both benefits and is supported by a manufacturing organization that walks the talk when it comes to water conservation."
