Petaluma, CA, July 21, 2010 – HydroPoint Data Systems, Inc. announced today that Oso Valley Greenbelt Association in Mission Viejo, California saved $250,000 and 108 million gallons of water in less than two years by adopting a new master landscape plan focused on water efficiency. Partnering with Professional Community Management (PCM), Monarch Environmental Inc. and Harvest Landscape Enterprises, Inc., Oso Valley implemented HydroPoint's WeatherTRAK Smart Water Management technology and other irrigation system upgrades for 150 landscaped acres. The Association and Harvest Landscape continue to earn accolades from community residents, the City of Mission Viejo and the Santa Margarita Water District for achieving dramatic cost and water savings.
Oso Valley Greenbelt Association, a community of 2,614 homes, achieved a positive return on their investment within the first 24 months of the five-year master plan program timeframe. When the plan is fully executed, the HOA expects additional annual savings in excess of $150,000. Key components of the plan include reducing water runoff and waste through the use of WeatherTRAK smart irrigation controllers, upgrading antiquated irrigation systems and replanting high-impact community areas with lower water use plants.
"This wasn't a simple maintenance contract. Improving long-term landscape appearance and health without increasing monthly expenses was of primary concern to the community," said Steven Schinhofen, president of Harvest Landscape Enterprises, Inc. of Orange County. "By deploying the WeatherTRAK solution, Harvest provided an immediate solution that saves resources – time, water and money – while preserving the community's lush appearance," he added.
Mr. Schinhofen led the Harvest Landscape team in all phases of the Oso Valley Greenbelt Association's master plan. In January 2009, the team prepared for the installation of water-efficient WeatherTRAK smart controllers by replacing broken irrigation pipes, malfunctioning sprinkler heads and thirsty plants to transform the community's steep slopes into a welcome oasis between the association's terraced neighborhoods and city streets.
Harvest then installed WeatherTRAK smart controllers to create significant operational and cost efficiencies. The WeatherTRAK technology eliminates water waste by adjusting irrigation schedules automatically based on changing plant needs and local weather conditions. Plants receive only the water they need, when they need it, optimizing the health of the rejuvenated landscape.
"We are very pleased with the water cost savings the association has realized," said Jennifer Stonebarger, Oso Valley Greenbelt Association president. She continued, "The master plan not only improves landscape aesthetics and increases property values, but also returns dollars back to our budget for future infrastructure projects."
