Petaluma, CA, November 1, 2010 – HydroPoint Data Systems, Inc. (www.hydropoint.com) announced today that its customer Berryessa Union School District of San Jose, California saved 1.1 million gallons of water in 2010, generating vital budget dollars and project payback within the first nine months. Berryessa achieved water use reductions up to 45% at 11 of its 13 elementary and middle schools by deploying HydroPoint's WeatherTRAK® Smart Water Management systems.
Partnering with local agencies on numerous water, utility and energy use audits, Berryessa Union School District identified landscape irrigation technology as a primary opportunity to reduce water bills and re-apply immediate cash savings back to the district's General Fund.
The district replaced antiquated irrigation timers with WeatherTRAK smart controllers to eliminate landscape water waste and create operational efficiencies. The controller technology adjusts irrigation schedules automatically based on changing plant needs and local weather conditions, saving Berryessa's Maintenance and Operations team tremendous amounts of manpower.
"The WeatherTRAK technology creates multiple efficiencies for our staff, reducing time in the field while improving overall landscape health and playing field conditions," states Mr. James Bakos, Director of School Facilities for Berryessa Union School District. "Our district saves both dollars and resources while returning money back to fund critical school programs."
The district will implement smart irrigation controllers at all 13 campuses in 2011, using internet-enabled WeatherTRAK features to deliver remote management, advanced reporting capabilities and complete control over outdoor water use. More feature-rich and intuitive than first-generation central-control products, the wireless WeatherTRAK solution responds dynamically to field issues and the Berryessa team is immediately alerted via text messages.
"Smart Water Management is one of many sustainability initiatives, including lighting retrofits, tree donations and recycling, at Berryessa Union School District that provides positive tangible results for the entire San Jose community," said Mr. Bakos. "The WeatherTRAK water efficiency solution directly transfers taxpayer dollars from wasteful landscape water use to valuable district resources."
